Dr Diana Semmonds AM

Dr Semmonds attained her medical degree from the University of Sydney and after spending one year in Ophthalmology in the United Kingdom at Leeds General Infirmary and Moorfields Hospital in London, returned to Sydney Eye Hospital where she completed her ophthalmology training, ending with a year as professorial registrar.
Dr Semmonds is a visiting consultant in Ophthalmology at Sydney Eye Hospital where she conducts an outpatient clinic and operating session. She is a member of the Intraocular Implant Unit, and is actively involved in the training of future ophthalmologists.
She has held a number of positions on numerous Boards and Committees of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) including Director and Chair of the Board; Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Hon Secretary of the NSW Branch of RANZCO; Chairman of the National Scientific Congress; Federal Councillor; Federal Qualification and Education Committee (QEC) member; Overseas Trained Specialist Panel member.
Dr Semmonds was elected as Vice President of the College in 2016. She is a current member of the Health and Wellbeing Committee, Trainee Progression Committee and Professional Conduct Committee.
Dr Semmonds is a Director on the Board of the Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation; Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of the Sight Foundation Theatre; and a member of the Medical Advisory Committee and Board of the Chatswood Private Hospital.
In the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours List, Dr Semmonds was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to Ophthalmology, to regulatory bodies and to professional organisations.
